SHOW HONORING EXTRAORDINARY SPORTSMANSHIP NEARLY TRIPLES ITS LARGEST-EVER AUDIENCE

ST. LOUIS – January 9, 2023 –  The 2022 Musial Awards on CBS and Paramount+ was seen by an average of 1.698 million viewers during the Christmas Eve broadcast.   The show that annually inspires the nation with stories of sportsmanship, selflessness, and kindness in sports nearly tripled its largest-ever audience in the four years it has aired on CBS.  In addition to the CBS and Paramount+ broadcast, the 2022 Musial Awards presented by Maryville University had two encore airings on CBS Sports Network.

“We are absolutely thrilled with how many across the country tuned in to experience what we call the most important awards in sports,” said Marc Schreiber, executive producer of the Musial Awards and president of the St. Louis Sports Commission.  “The viewership represents a wonderful step forward in the growth of the Musial Awards and the impact they have in inspiring people to be good sports.  We are grateful to CBS Sports for its partnership and belief in the program – and for providing an outstanding platform for us to celebrate and elevate sportsmanship in America.”

There will be one more opportunity for viewers in the St. Louis market to see the Musial Awards, as the show will air Saturday, January 28 at 7 p.m. CT on KSDK 5 On Your Side.

The 2022 Musial Awards featured stories with an overarching theme of athletes’ relationships with fans and their communities.  The show is packed with heartwarming stories of athletes bonding with their fans, compassion among competitors, and individuals using the power of sports for good, headlined this year by Albert Pujols as the recipient of the 2022 Stan Musial Lifetime Achievement Award—the highest award for sportsmanship.

NFL All-Pro running back Warrick Dunn received the Musial Award for Extraordinary Character, and U.S. Olympic speedskater Brittany Bowe was also recognized for her memorable act of sportsmanship and selflessness in giving up her Olympic qualification spot to a teammate she felt deserved it more.  Full interviews and a synopsis of all 2022 Musial Awards honorees can be found at MusialAwards.com/Honorees.
