PROGRAM NAMED “LOCALLY CREATED EVENT OF THE YEAR”
BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SPORTS COMMISSIONS
ST. LOUIS – April 8, 2016 – The St. Louis-based Musial Awards received a prestigious award of its own this week. The National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) recognized the Musial Awards as the Locally Created Event of the Year. The award was presented to the St. Louis Sports Commission at the NASC’s annual Sports Event Symposium in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Sports Commission created and produces the Musial Awards, which honor Stan Musial’s legacy by celebrating the greatest moments and stories of sportsmanship in North America.
Each year at the Sports Event Symposium, the NASC recognizes outstanding achievements of its members through its awards program. The Locally Created Event of the Year award goes to an active member of the organization with the most outstanding locally created event or program. A panel of association members judges the nominations and selects the winner. With 750 member organizations representing more than 350 cities, the NASC is the leading trade organization for the sports tourism industry.
“It is very gratifying to see the Musial Awards be honored by our peers around the country,” said
St. Louis Sports Commission President Frank Viverito. “The recognition affirms the value that the Musial Awards has our on our community and beyond. By celebrating and elevating sportsmanship, we can inspire civility and selflessness throughout society and ultimately make a transformational impact among people of all ages.”
The Sports Commission has produced the Musial Awards in St. Louis since 2005. The event has become one of the most meaningful and inspiring nights in sports. It takes place annually at the historic 3,000-seat Peabody Opera House in downtown St. Louis and airs as a primetime television special on St. Louis’ NBC affiliate, KSDK-TV. Recent honorees include golf legend Arnold Palmer, baseball hall of famer Joe Torre, Little League World Series star Mo’ne Davis, Turner sportscaster Ernie Johnson, and many others recognized for extraordinary displays of sportsmanship that represent the best in sports and humanity.
The 2016 Musial Awards – presented by Maryville University – will take place on Nov. 19. More information on the Musial Awards can be found at MusialAwards.com.
In addition to receiving the Locally Created Event of the Year award, the St. Louis Sports Commission has been selected as the NASC’s Sports Commission of the Year three times – in 2002, 2005 and 2013.
