The Stantennial Party Box is one of several ways the Musial Awards will mark Stan The Man’s 100th birthday, despite not being able to host its annual live awards show due to the global pandemic. This year’s Musial Awards – presented by Maryville University – had been scheduled to take place at Stifel Theatre in St. Louis on Nov. 21. In its place, the Musial Awards will host an outdoor celebration that day at Busch Stadium that will adhere to social distancing guidelines. The event will feature a drive-by birthday party with the Musial family at the Musial statue and a chance for fans to walk the warning track inside Busch Stadium as part of a journey through the ballpark with photo opportunities and special experiences. The drive-by birthday party will be free to the public; tickets will be required for the journey through the ballpark. More details will be announced soon.
Additionally, the Musial Awards is asking fans to share their favorite “Musial Moments.” These can include memories of Stan, the unique interactions they had with him, and what made the baseball legend and civic icon the ultimate good sport. Fans can share their stories through social media by using #StanMusialMoment and tagging the Musial Awards (@MusialAwards) or by visiting MusialAwards.com/Moments.
Although the live awards show won’t take place this year, the Musial Awards will still go on in the form of a one-hour special that will air nationally on CBS on Saturday, Dec. 26 (time TBD). The broadcast will recognize the Musial Awards’ 2020 honorees, including Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, recipient of this year’s Stan Musial Lifetime Achievement Award for Sportsmanship, and NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, recipient of the Stan Musial Award for Extraordinary Character.
The Musial Awards – presented by Maryville University – celebrate the year’s greatest moments of sportsmanship and those in sports who embody class and character. In addition to keeping alive the legacy of Stan The Man, the mission of the Musial Awards is to encourage kindness, selflessness, integrity and civility in sports and society – and to inspire people across the nation to be good sports. The Musial Awards has taken place in St. Louis since 2005, and in normal times, occurs the Saturday before Thanksgiving at the historic 3,000-seat Stifel Theatre in Downtown St. Louis. It is produced by the St. Louis Sports Commission and the National Sportsmanship Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
