LEADING UP TO 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF MUSIAL’S BIRTH, FANS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SHARE THEIR MEMORIES OF STAN THE MAN

ST. LOUIS – Aug. 31, 2020 – In the year of the “Stantennial,” the Musial Awards wants to hear your favorite memories of Stan The Man. The Musial Awards is launching a Stan Musial Moments Campaign as we get ready to celebrate his 100th birthday on Nov. 21. The campaign encourages fans to share what made Musial the ultimate good sport. Fans can submit stories that recount the unique interactions they had with the baseball legend and civic icon or how he impacted their lives. The Musial Awards hopes to generate submissions from St. Louis and around the globe. It will retweet and share those submissions on its social media platforms.

To participate, fans should post a video, audio clip, photos or text on social media (Twitter, Instagram or Facebook) telling their favorite Musial Moment. Posts should include #StanMusialMoment and tag the Musial Awards (@MusialAwards). Videos should be recorded in horizontal format and be no longer than one minute in duration. In addition to posting on social media, memories of Musial can be submitted through the Musial Awards website at MusialAwards.com/Moments.

The deadline to submit a Musial Moment for the campaign is Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020. The Musial Awards will select some of its favorite stories to receive a Stantennial Party Box.

This year’s Musial Awards – presented by Maryville University – had been scheduled to take place at Stifel Theatre in St. Louis on Musial’s 100th birthday. However, due to the global pandemic, the live event will not occur. Instead, the show will go on in the form of a one-hour special that will air nationally on CBS on Saturday, Dec. 26. The broadcast will recognize the Musial Awards’ 2020 honorees, including Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, recipient of this year’s Musial Lifetime Achievement Award for Sportsmanship.

In lieu of its traditional live show, the Musial Awards is working on alternate plans to commemorate Musial’s 100th on Nov. 21. Besides the Musial Moments campaign, plans include an outdoor celebration at Busch Stadium that will adhere to social distancing guidelines. The Musial Awards is also creating a Stantennial Party Box that will be available for purchase, giving fans the opportunity to celebrate Musial’s 100th birthday in their homes. More details on the celebration at Busch Stadium and the Stantennial party boxes will be announced soon.

The Musial Awards – presented by Maryville University – celebrate the year’s greatest moments of sportsmanship and those in sports who embody class and character. The event and its national broadcast are produced by the St. Louis Sports Commission and the National Sportsmanship Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. In addition to keeping alive the legacy of Stan The Man, the mission of the Musial Awards is to encourage kindness, selflessness, integrity and civility in sports and society – and to inspire people across the nation to be good sports. The Musial Awards has taken place in St. Louis since 2005, and in normal times, occurs the Saturday before Thanksgiving at the historic 3,000-seat Stifel Theatre in Downtown St. Louis.

Since 2011, Maryville University has served as the presenting sponsor of the Musial Awards. The school’s involvement, leadership and generosity have helped make the Musial Awards the most important awards in sports®.
