EVENT CELEBRATES STAN THE MAN’S LEGACY AND THE YEAR’S GREATEST MOMENTS OF SPORTSMANSHIP

TICKETS AVAILABLE STARTING AT JUST $25

ST. LOUIS – Nov. 21, 2014 – Two nationally celebrated – and respected – sports figures will be in St. Louis Saturday for an inspiring night highlighting the good in sports and society.  Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Torre and Little League World Series sensation Mo’ne Davis are among those being recognized at the Musial Awards.  The event, which honors Stan Musial’s legacy and celebrates the year’s greatest moments of sportsmanship, takes place at the Peabody Opera House at 8 p.m.  Tickets starting at $25 are available to the public.  Ticket details appear later in this release.

A class act as a player, manager and Major League Baseball executive, Torre is receiving the Stan Musial Lifetime Achievement Award for Sportsmanship.  He is the inaugural recipient of the award, which is the pinnacle honor bestowed at the Musial Awards.  Torre’s selection recognizes the upstanding character and humble demeanor he has displayed throughout his career.  The four-time World Series champion manager has been a model of integrity and generosity.

Davis will be presented the Musial Award for Extraordinary Character in recognition of the remarkable poise, maturity and modesty she displayed on one of the grandest stages in August.  The 13-year-old pitcher from Philadelphia captivated the nation as she became the first girl to earn a win and pitch a shutout in the Little League World Series.  Thrust into the national spotlight, she handled her experience in Williamsport, Pa., and her newfound stardom with remarkable composure and class.  A trailblazer through her historic pitching accomplishments, she has become a role model inspiring kids and giving them hope for all that is possible.

Nine other recipients of the Musial Award will be celebrated for acts of extraordinary sportsmanship.  The names of the 2014 honorees and their inspiring stories can be found at MusialAwards.com.
